There are many events in this book that, if they had occured in a different way, may have changed the entire plot. One such event is when Elizabeth Proctor lied about knowing about the affair between her husband and Abigail. The entire book may have been resolved right then if Elizabeth had told the truth about the affair. If she had told the truth Abigial would probably have been caught right then and there. Everyone would have believed that Abigail was a liar and this would have meant that all of her testimonies would be invalid and all of those that were accused by her would have to be let go. Aswell, John Proctor would probably be punished, justly, for having an affair. However, this does not happen, and as a result Abigail gets to continue her tirade, Elizabeth stays locked up and accused along with several others, and John is imprisoned unfairly and without real cause other than Abigails word.

I think that this book could have gone different in several different places. I think that if Mary Warren had been able to faint maybe the court would have believed that all of the girls were pretending. If the court had believed that the girls were faking maybe they would have let the accused go and abigail and the other girls would have got in trouble and it couldn't have gone tom much more out of hand.

I think that there are palces were the accusings could of stopped there and then if a few things went differently. I think the biggest one was when Elizabeth lied aboout the affair between John and Abigail. If she had told the truth the judges might of thought differently about Abigail. They could of and probably taken everybody out of jail and unaccused everyone. This also might of stop the witch trials and put the girls in jaill for lying. But because Elizabeth didn't do this she let the witch trials be able to keep happening and her lie soon led to her husband being put in jail. This lie changed the whole outcome of the book and many people died because of it.

If only… that’s the thing, the things that happened in 1692 happened and there’s no changing history. If one person were to change their decisions in anyway the events in the Salem could have turned out different in so many ways. For example, if Elizabeth Proctor had told the truth about John having an affair with Abigail, that might have caused the judges to realize that the accused were innocent and that the girls were the troublemakers. All of the people that were going to hang would be able to have their life. Most likely the only people that would die, maybe, would be Abigail and her friends. John would definitely be punished for having an affair, but that would be okay since nobody would have died for a false reason. I bet Elizabeth was afraid to come true that her husband was a lecher for his reputation, and their families well being. But that didn’t happen so people were continued to be tried by the judges and sentenced.

I think that if Elizabeth would have told the truth about John , he wouldn’t have been in jail and they both would be free. Also I think that Abigail wouldn’t have been in control anymore. Another thing to think on is Mary fainting. If she did pretend to faint I think that the court would’ve believed her and not Abby then everyone in jail would’ve been released. Although neither of these happen I think they would both lead to something better for Salem.

If Giles had told the name of his informant i believe that MR.Putnam and ruth would be hanged and the rest of the girls would be questioned on thier accusations. Then those who are innocent (which was everyone) would be set free. The same outcome would come if Mary Warren had pretended to faint or if Elizabeth had told the truth. Except the Ruth and Mr.Putnam part. They would probably still hang but we dont know that.If Marry had fainted she would have proved that the girls were faking and Abigail would be shown as frawd. Marry warren might be punished as well but not as hard because she confessed it. Last if Elizabeth had told the truth it would have proved Abby a harlet and John would be punished but many innocent lives would be spared from punishment they don't deserve.

Like most books this one was full of surprises, but the biggest one came from the character that was least expected. Elizabeth Proctor. Elizabeth
was a young, healthy, loyal wife. She entirely truthful her whole life until her husbands life came into play. Right now the town of Salem has been suspected of witchery and many people have been tried and convicted of it. Elizabeth Proctor has also been suspected of witchery and was taken into custody and jailed just a night ago in the book. There was a very long and grueling process of questions without any answers; also John Proctor was taken into custody and tortured overnight to get answers, they think he has also dealt with the devil. As Elizabeth was being queried in the court she lied to Judge Danforth and said that her husband was not a lecher although she knew he was. If she had told the court that her husband was a lecher with Abigail Williams this whole shinanigan could have ended. John told them that they fired Abigail because Elizabeth found out about their affair and the court wanted proof from the woman who kicked her out. If ONLY Elizabeth would not have lied they could have thrown Abigail in jail and not believed another thing she or the other girls would have to say about witches. If they had known that they could know that the girls just wanted to get back at people they did not like. But by Elizabeth breaking her honesty just for ONE time she accidentally abetted the situation to escalate even further. Bottom line is that if Elizabeth had not lied then John would have been punished but not as badly as he is now, the girls would have been thrown in jail and possibly killed, lots of lives would have been saved and this nasty moment in history could have ended a lot sooner.
